Diesel Generator Protection Device Testing

The measurement and commissioning of diesel generator set protection devices include setting value measurement and linkage test of voltage relay, current relay and time relay. By adjusting the knobs of voltage regulator and relay, the setting value of relay is tested to ensure that it works correctly under the set value. Overvoltage and overcurrent protection linkage test verifies the reliability and safety of protection system and ensures the safe operation of diesel generator set.

Voltage relay KV setting. Disconnect the external wiring of the voltage relay KV coil, connect it to the output end of the voltage regulator TY and connect it to the voltmeter. Adjust the output of the voltage regulator to 0, and connect its input end to the AC 220V power supply. First turn the KV setting knob to the maximum setting value, then adjust the output voltage of the voltage regulator to the setting value of KV, and then slowly rotate the KV setting knob in the direction of the smaller setting value to make KV act and the normally open contact close. Then call back the voltage regulator to disconnect the normally open contact of the voltage relay, and then increase the output of the voltage regulator to the setting value to see if KV acts. If it does not act or acts too early, it should be readjusted until the KV action value matches the setting value, and then the output voltage of the voltage regulator is adjusted to 0.

Current relay KAU (or KAvKAw) setting. Disconnect the external wiring of KAU (or KAvAw) coil, connect it in series with variable resistor RP and ammeter A, and then connect it to the output end of voltage regulator TY. Adjust the output of the voltage regulator to 0, adjust the variable resistor RP to the maximum resistance value and connect the AC 220V power supply to the input end of TY. First, turn the KAU (or KAvKAw) setting knob to the maximum setting value, then slowly adjust the output voltage of the voltage regulator (coarse adjustment) and reduce the resistance of the variable resistor RP (fine adjustment) to make the current through the KAU (or KAvKA coil reach the setting value, and then slowly rotate the relay setting knob in the direction of the smaller setting value to make it operate and the normally open contact close. Then turn the voltage regulator back to disconnect the normally open contact of the relay, and then increase the output of the voltage regulator to make the current reach the setting value to see if the relay operates. If it does not operate or operates too early, it needs to be readjusted until the relay action value matches the setting value. Finally, adjust the output voltage of the voltage regulator to 0 and the resistance of the variable resistor to the maximum.

Overvoltage protection linkage test. Connect the control circuit power supply, and the power indicator light 1LH lights up. Press the button SB1, the main switch QF closes, and the closing indicator light 21.H lights up. Adjust the output voltage of the voltage regulator to the setting value of the voltage relay. At this time, KV should act, the main switch trips in the above manner, the electric bell rings, and the light sign lights up. Otherwise, the damage that cannot act should be found and eliminated. After the linkage test is completed, disassemble the wiring of the voltage regulator, restore the original wiring of KV, and turn off the control circuit power supply.

Overcurrent protection linkage experiment. Connect the control circuit power supply, and the power indicator light 1LH lights up. Press the button SB1, the main switch QF closes, and the closing indicator light 2LH lights up. Adjust the voltage regulator TY and the rheostat RP so that the current through the current relay reaches the set value. At this time, the relay should act, the main switch trips according to the above procedure, the electric bell rings, and the light sign lights up. Otherwise, the damage to the circuit that cannot act should be found and eliminated. After the linkage test, dismantle the wiring of the voltage regulator, restore the original wiring of the current relay and the signal relay, and turn off the power supply of the control circuit.

Setting of time relay KT2 (or KT1). Preliminarily set KT2 (or KT1) to the setting value according to the setting requirements, then turn on the control circuit power supply, and artificially short-circuit the normally open contact of the voltage relay (or current relay). At this time, the time relay starts to act, the moving contact starts to move, and after a period of time, the normally open contact is closed. The period from the time relay starts to act to the normally open contact closing is the delay time of the time relay, which should be the same as the setting value of the arrangement. If it is inconsistent, it should be readjusted until it meets the requirements. After the setting is completed, the control circuit power supply should be disconnected.
